With my work schedule I
could never seem to find the time to train to
ride, as the quality trainers were several
hundred miles from me. Our good friend and
neighbor Danny Edge encouraged us to show Flash
at Halter because he felt he was competitive.
With the help of his wife Jessie and daughter
Jessica I learned to show halter and then
decided that I would try my hand at Longe Line.
Bo Pruitt showed him the first time and he
placed first under all Judges for eight points.
In spite of my nervousness I received one point
at the next show.
Flash has also been
trained to do Showmanship but his momma just
can’t get with the program. But he is really
good at it.
Flash is quiet, well
behaved, and very eager to please. I was the
first to sit on him before he went off to be
trained as a riding horse. The trainer reported
that he never tried to buck once. He was a very
quick study and placed sixth, out of nine
horses, at the Pinto World in his two-year-old
Futurity after only three months of training.
Several trainers have
told me that you find a horse like Flash only
about one in every five hundred.
I know that every horse
I show from now on will be compared to him. I
hope that does not discourage the up and coming
weanlings.
